Neck Pain + Headaches - Back Talk with Dr. Ryan, Ep. 5
Sep 19, 2024Ever wonder why your neck hurts, even though you didn’t do anything obvious to cause it? It could be about more than just sore muscles—it might be how your neck is aligned.
In this video, I break down why your neck’s natural curve, called cervical lordosis, is so important. Picture your head like a bowling ball: heavy and needing balance. When your neck curve is intact, it acts like a shock absorber.
But with today’s tech habits—hunching over phones and computers—your neck can lose that curve, causing pain, stiffness, headaches, and even numbness in your arms.
A straightened or reversed cervical curve doesn’t just affect your neck. It can lead to problems in your mid and lower back, and research shows it increases the likelihood of chronic neck pain. So, what can you do?
It starts with the EAT method:
- Exercise: Movement is crucial. Stretching and strengthening your neck and upper back can help prevent that hunched posture.
- Adjust Lifestyle: Posture awareness is key. Whether sitting at a desk or checking your phone, realigning your body can take pressure off your spine.
- Traction: For deeper corrections, you need more than exercises. Traction therapy helps retrain the ligaments in your spine to restore its natural curve.
Research has shown the effectiveness of cervical spine rehabilitation using tools like the Denneroll. Studies show significant reductions in pain and improvements in neck function when traction is added to traditional therapy.
If your neck pain is severe, it might be time to consult a Chiropractic BioPhysics (CBP) physician. They’ll assess your spine and provide a personalized plan to restore your neck’s curve and relieve pain.
Neck pain isn’t just from tight muscles—it’s about alignment. Fix your posture, strengthen your neck, and get professional help if needed.
Plus, during this episode of Back Talk, we’ll explore headaches - the causes, the effects, and how to get rid of them without relying on medications.
