Fibromyalgia Relief: The Surprising Connection to Your Neck Posture
Feb 21, 2025You might be surprised why your fibromyalgia pain won’t go away. Maybe it’s because of your neck posture! If you struggle with muscle pain, fatigue, or tender knots that won’t go away, you might have fibromyalgia—or something closely related.
In this episode of Back Talk, Dr. Ryan Wohlfert breaks down what fibromyalgia really is, why posture plays a bigger role than you think, and what you can do about it.
Fibromyalgia is more than just widespread pain. It often comes with sleep issues, memory problems (fibro fog), and mood swings. Common pain areas include the neck, shoulders, chest, lower back, and thighs. But what if your spine and posture are making these symptoms worse?
Recent research shows a strong link between 3D spinal misalignment and fibromyalgia. People with excessive forward head posture, hunchback curves, or trunk rotation are more likely to experience chronic pain. Poor posture puts stress on the nervous system, making it harder for your body to function properly.
Another study compared physical therapy alone to physical therapy combined with cervical traction (using the Denneroll device) to correct spinal alignment. Both groups improved in the short term, but after a year, only the traction group maintained their results—less pain, better sleep, and improved overall well-being.
So what does this mean for you? If you’ve been battling fibromyalgia, chronic muscle pain, or fatigue, addressing spinal alignment might be the missing piece. The best way to assess your posture is with standing spinal X-rays, but a virtual posture and mobility assessment is a great place to start.
Dr. Wohlfert offers virtual assessments to help you determine whether your posture and spinal health are contributing to your symptoms. Click the link to schedule your assessment and take the first step toward lasting relief.
